Leadership Styles that Foster Employee Engagement

Democratic Leadership

Employees are the foundation of an organization who are engaged to boost the productivity. Hence it is indeed that initiate policies that are directed towards employee development and satisfaction (PETERSON, 2004)

Democratic leaders give power to their employees with the power of decision-making which makes the employees feel more responsible and owned. Democratic leaders encourage employees to give their suggestions and feedbacks as well as participate in discussions on regular basis. This will enhance the morale of the employees and allows workers to work towards the organizational goals and objectives.

(LI, n.d.) stated that every organization seeking to boost sales and profits should engage with democratic style leadership.

Transformational Leadership

Transformational leaders are always clear in communicating the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the organization. Which provides an idea to the employees regarding the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the organization and helps them align their inputs with them. Transformational leaders encourage employees to be more innovative and provide them with freedom to initiate new things, innovate, and test out solutions for the issues.

Transformational leaders inspire and motivate their followers by setting a compelling vision, providing support, and fostering a sense of purpose, leading to higher levels of job performance among employees. Further they provide supportive and empowering work environment, which enhances employee commitment and engagement. Engaged employees are more likely to be proactive, productive, and contribute positively to their work, leading to improved job performance (Dhwani Mishra, 2023)

Transactional Leadership

Transactional leaders clearly define the tasks, roles, and expectations to the employees. Its helps to employees to identified what are the expectations of their leaders. (Maundu, 2020) These type leaders reward or punish their subordinates to achieve organizational goals. providing rewards to accomplish their tasks such and incentives, bonuses and promotions to motivate their subordinates in order to perform well. These types of leaders provide their feedback immediately which will help to employee identify any gaps what are the actions they require to get to remove such gaps and to improve their skills and performance and get motivated.

Conclusion

Different leadership styles are key in shaping employee engagement and organizational success. Democratic leadership fosters teamwork and accountability through participative decision-making boosting employee morale and commitment. Transformational leadership drives innovation and motivation, inspiring employees to redirect efforts towards organizational goals and proactive contributions.

On the other hand, transactional leadership fosters expectations and performance clarity through formal reward and feedback systems. By identifying and applying these leadership styles, organizations can create a more effective workforce, increase productivity and sustain long term growth.
